One of the most important aspects of co-operative living is participation.  Co-ops are able to keep their housing charges low by depending on the volunteer efforts of their members to help with the management of the co-op.  Before you apply for membership in a co-operative community, you should discuss with your family how you plan to adjust your lifestyle to make time to contribute to your neighbourhood.

Members are required to purchase shares to become a participant of Craigilea Co-op, which are refundable should the member decides to leave the co-op.  To qualify for membership, your minimum gross monthly income must be at least $3,550 or more.  Subsidy is not available to new members.

Current Share Purchase:  $2,500

Current Monthly Housing Charges:
1-bedroom : $720
2-bedroom : $926 – $1,136
3-bedroom : $1,151 – $1,312

We believe in the principles of democracy and co-operation.  It is also understood that an engaged and involved membership is essential to the long-term success of our co-op.  We will endeavour to keep our units filled with members who:

  • Share our core values
  • Accept the responsibility of membership
  • Willing to take pride in their homes
  • Meet their financial obligations
  • Follow co-op policies
  • Participate and be involved in the co-op

Potential members must be prepared to agree to the following basic principles:

  • That they own their units collectively as members of Craigilea Co-Op
  • That they actively participate in the maintenance, development and continuing management of Craigilea Co-op
  • That they will attend general membership meetings
  • That they volunteer to serve on the Board of Directors or one of the committees
  • That should they move out they will accept, at par value, the redemption of their original share purchase regardless of current property values

Members are required to do the following:

  • Provide proof of household insurance
  • Volunteer their time – a minimum of 2 to 3 hours per month
  • Attend monthly member meetings.
